Manuel Neuer has been appointed Germany’s new senior men’s national team captain.
Neuer’s announcement as Germany’s new captain was made on Thursday.
Neuer, 30, succeeds Bastian Schweinsteiger, who called it quits after appearing in his final game in Wednesday’s 2-0 friendly win against Finland.
A former goalkeeper for Schalke, Neuer joined current Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in 2011.
He made his debut at a major tournament for Germany at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa where Germany finished third.
In 2013, he helped Bayern Munich win the UEFA Champions League following a 2-1 final win against bitter rivals Borussia Dortmund.
Also, he was a member of the German side that beat Argentina 1-0 in the final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
