Belgian side, Mechelen, is in talks with Manchester City over a loan move for their Nigerian U-20 midfielder Chidebere Nwakali in order to gain first-team experience.
The 17-year-old was part of Manchester City squad for their pre-season tour of Scotland before a knee injury cut denied him a chance to feature at the Guinness International Champions Cup in the United States of America.
With City’s squad challenging for silverware in the new season, and manager Manuel Pellegrini talking up their chances of winning a quadruple, Nwakali will find it extremely hard to make an impact let alone establish himself in the squad.
It would be recalled that Nwakali who has fully recovered from the injury was a member of the Nigeria side that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup for a record fourth time in 2013 where he made seven appearances in the tournament, scoring twice for the Golden Eaglets.
Hehas already signed a pre-contract deal with Man City which could translate to a professional contract when he clocks 18.
