Kelechi Nwakali has revealed his satisfaction at the performance of the Super Eagles B team in Tuesday’s 3-2 GOTV Max Cup friendly defeat to Atletico Madrid at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Nwakali was one of the standout performers for the Salisu Yusuf’s team in the encounter where he scored one of Nigeria’s goals.

“It was a good game from our team, I didn’t expect this kind of performance from our team because we came only three days to the game,” the Arsenal midfielder sa8d in his post-match interview.

Zenith Ziva

“We thank God for the opportunity from the coach. The team build-up and play was awesome.”

On his brilliant goal against Atletico Madrid, Nwakali said: “It was a thing of joy for his achieving the feat. We will work harder and keep pushing until we get there.”

Nwakali’s sublime hit from range in the 31st minute gave the Super Eagles B team the lead but Angel Correa restored parity for the newly crowned UEFA Europa League champions a minute later.

Fernando Torres came on as a second half substitute to make it 2-1 for Atletico Madrid in the 64th minute before Usman Mohammed levelled scores for the Nigerian side after bamboozle the Atletico defence with lovely foot work in the penalty area.

Borja Baston sealed the win for Atletico Madrid five minutes from time, firing in off a defence-splitting pass.

Nwakali also played down his exclusion from Nigeria’s provisional squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

“The coach decides who he picks and I believe he has a right to do so.”

On the chances of the Super Eagles at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Nwakali said Gernot Rohr’s side possess quality players to deliver in Russia.

“We have the players to succeed in Russia if they put their mind to it,” he added.

Seeing those Agbo Malu and Agu in the team is really annoying. I’m almost weeping

    • My brother u are right, all those ogu, agu and Co are so annoying and can’t string passes together

This guy deserve to go to d world cup,if kelechi was from a European country he would have make d list, rohr pls shld invite him again to play in our friendlies

  • ako amadi 3 years ago

This is not the first time that Nigerians have voiced their acclaim of Kelechi Nwakali’s qualities. Why does he still not have a prominent club in Europe? At only 19, certainly his time will come in the national team. But he is better than some in the current Super Eagles squad. Why are we delaying?

  • Omo9ja 3 years ago

That is the missing link right there. I’m not a coach but if given the opportunity I am ready to help.

They don’t need to tell us that an old woman doesn’t have teeths to bite guguru oloyin, the truth already been known.

This Kelechi is humble and is a star and he is a smart guy who always ready to learn.

You don’t need to advertise yourself while you have God behind you.

This year world cup is different. Nigerians will continue to voice out, until coach Rohr and the NFF president listen to our words of advice and wisdom then, they will see us smiling.

Enough of politics game in our football.

    @Chima E Samuels, I agreed with you.
Agu, Akpeyi and co have nothing to do in that list but only God can help us in Nigeria. The corruption is three much. Fingers crossed. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • Let d truth be tolded. Dat 2nd goal cannot or can never be scored by some of d big boys on d least of 30 til jesus come.

    • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

Lol! @Olu abeg no kill me with laughter this morning. LMAO!!! No worries the not so up to standard amongst them will soon be raked away.

    • Abiodun 3 years ago

I totally agree with you my guy even those in the A team Connor spring possess the way those young lads did yester day

  • In 94 best legs wer paraded.  In 98. Overconfidence was noticed in d team . In 2002 new sets of players from local league. In 2010. Eagles played with 3 tired legs on d field dat ghana whose team dat lost out in qualifying for d  football Olympic where eagle got d silver medal went as far as d q/ fin al in south Africa.  In Brazil dat is history. Now is 2018  d defence  is all sick dat even if dey qualified  from d group,  dey will be relying on attackers to defend  d back lines. Eg igallo wil play as noba 5 . After eagles win croasis Iceland and agetina in  nock out stages.

  • Hmm… …..I happened to be part of the football followers that support Kelechi Nwakali for the future and not world cup but with the way he plays… and seeing Agu, Uche agbo, among the 30 man list made me change my mind.
Agbo has been with d team since the beginning but even common dead match, he can’t play. He’s just a training material.  And Agu has been on d bench for common buraspor. Rohr has to wake up o! Even the Mohammed guy that scored okocha’s like goal is better. Because I’ve never seen Agu at the front of 18 yard box talkless of scoring that kind of goal. Rohr should think twice o!

  • Chairmanfemi 3 years ago

Please include Kelechi in that squad o. He’s far better than Agbo,Agu and some of those Big boys i saw on the TV screen yesterday o

  • u-best 3 years ago

If the Main Super Eagle want to progress in Russia they should learn from yesterday game, don’t fear or over respect any player or team, have your own pattern of play & concentrate. B Eagle never send Torres & co even outplayed them.

  • I hate our goalie, he has no presence at all, all d three goals he conceded were cheap and senseless. the goalie may be our weakest spot in Russia, I fear

  • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

Even if it’s to at least train with the main team. He should be in the SuperEagles without further delay. In 1994 Kanu, Taribo and Tijani Babangida were called up by Westerhoff during training camp. They played in the friendly against Sweden and distinguished themselves. Though they didn’t make the final 23 to the USA, but they eventually became global superstars. They won Africa its first ever Olympic gold in football two years later. After watching the game over and over again I believe there are at least 4 players in that game that deserves to be in training camp with the main SuperEagles. The Nwakali brothers, Musa Muhammed and Usman who scored the second goal. However, I’m glad that we have some players that can step in anytime they’re called upon and most of the players that played against Atletico can still be a part of the Olympics in 2020 and the AFCON next year. #FLY LIKE AN EAGLE INTO THE FUTURE#

  • Chairmanfemi 3 years ago

Kelechi Nwakali should be called to Ibom Meridiens Hotel right away with immediate effect. C’mon what will Agu and Agbo be doing in that list when Nwakali is far better than them. I would have also called for Musa Muhammed’s inclusion just that Shehu and Ebuehi are also up to the task.

  • Abdul andah 3 years ago

Kelechi nwakali is now matured enough to be in the super eagles so he should be called up with immediate alacrity. This shows that the so called super eagles scouts didn’t do their homework well if not he would have made to the 30man list.

  • Nigeria team B could have won that match if Ezenwa or Ajiboye was in between the sticks. The goals they (ATM) scored were cheap goals. Meanwhile, K- Nwa. should be invited to the senior team alongside Mo. Usman. They played incredibly well.

    • Nwaebonyi 3 years ago

Can other names be added to the already released 30 man list

  • ojo samuel 3 years ago

i ve said it times without number…nigeria has talents but they don’t encourage and develop their talents…look at that 2013 and 2015 u-17 world cup winning team…those guys were wasted apart frm kelechi, dele, uzoho and ndidi…the rest are nowhere…the success, awoniyi, akinjide idowu, usman mo, nwakali bro, chukwueze, yahaya musa and co are now gone…look at germany and how muller understudied klose at the world cup…all the practise of begging tammy, solanke and tounarigha to play for us is a shame while we have capable guys that can do the job… as siasia has rightly spoken…the two players that should have understudied mikel, musa, ighalo and moses should have beem k.nwakali, j.ajayi, t.awoniyi and s.kalu… all this agu, agbo, akpeyi and a JJC simeon does not beautify our football

  • Edoman of New Jersey, USA. 3 years ago

Bomboy, l always like the way you think. Here again, l agreed with you, Thanks.

  • Fissietemmie 3 years ago

I have been clamouring these two players time without numbers Kelechi Nwankali and Victor Osihmen that if Coach Rohr want to do extremely well should not make them make up the numbers but under any circumstances they should be among the 23 man team to the world cup. Permit me to add one more player which I have not see his game for a very long time but he’s playing which is Mo Usman. The reasons of insisting on this players are that; they are young very young for 120minutes matches, they are very good and their quality can not be washed away. They are also cool headed players easy to carry instructions of the coaching crew out on or off the pitch. Distraction will not come their ways because where you asked them to stay you will meet them. On fan commenting on the inclusion of ogu,agu and Agbo, they just make up the numbers they know that themselves. I pity the coach towards being loyal to the players that qualifies us to the world cup at times you bend rules to accommodate new good introduction that when they see it they won’t blame you. That is where Nwakali, Osihmen and Usman belongs. Add them to your 23 man team and you will become a legend in Nigeria football fraternity. Coach Rohr

  • Obozuwa 3 years ago

what will you think of GR if he starts making addition now to his already invited 30men, he will be termed clueless. so let the guys up their games, atleast if they are ready to impress they(Nwakalis) should also win a shirt in their parent clubs (Man City & Arsenal). since Chidebere has trained with the Super Eagles, definitely there are plans for him.

    • With what Rohr has achieved so far, it will be funny to call him clueless because he adds one or two players strictly on merit. But if he realizes the team could be much better by such addition and refused in order to look competent, that will amount to unjustifiable arrogance on his side. He is a human being and learning and improvement must not be jepiardised for unprofitable self preservation.

    • I forgot to add this, if merit is based on the clubs our players play for, not even Mikel or Ighalo will be in that team. About 600 percent of our players do not play in reputable clubs nor leagues

  • Even if we have only 25 players in camp, let them be the best without unnecessary sentiment. Some players simply have no business in that 30 man list and that is very obvious. It is good for Rohr to maintain continuity but we need to also strike a bit of a balance. If Rohr truly has regard for merit, at least he should include Kelechi in Eagles camp to watch him more closely. And if he realizes that the guy is consistent and convincing enough, there is nothing that should stop him from going to Russia. We are in a dire need of a playmaker and that was conspicuous in our last 2 friendlies. God forbid but what if Mikel is injured? If a player took on Athletiko’s midfield the way Kelechi did, then there is no doubt he is exceptional and we have always known that he is.

  • Sunnyb 3 years ago

Is either Rohr is corrupt or clueless, ignoring player like Kelechi is an act ignorance or corruption. Guys see the players invited ahead of Nwakalis and  Usman. Ogu, Agu, Agbo, Onazi, Iheanacho and even Iwobi yes I said it Iwobi, Kelechi is far better than all these jokers. Iwobi and Iheanacho looses possessions easily and they don’t track them, silly mistakes like that will cost Nigeria dearly.

Some guys can turn Iwobi and Iheanacho to mini god in this forum, but I would not join the praise singers, world would expose a lot players and their praise singers. Rohr should invite Kelechi now.

  • Bestsports. 3 years ago

Truth is bitter to both NFF and coach Rohr! Because kelechi and usman are by far better and technically gifted players than the so called uche agbo, Agu mikel and john ogu! Because talent no dey hide himself. Nff Amaju and Rohr better invite these better equipped stars at once because NO TIME.

the fact is we need a playmaker apart from mikel. i couldn’t just enjoy those games against poland nd serbia…kelechi must be invited or iwobi deployed in mikel role

We had indigenous coaches that did not qualify us for two consecutive AFCON tournament but we are here calling a coach that has not stay up to two years clueless coach,a coach that brought passion and genuine competition in our football culture, brothers let’s face the reality, some of the things we are asking this coach to do,even if we are appointed as the Eagles coach,we would not do them. Kelechi and other players are good but I strongly believe that in no distance time,he will join the super eagle as for Agu and co,its obvious that they are not going anywhere. This same Kelechi could not qualify his set for the under 20 tournament pls let’s not give the boy the impression that he’s good but the coach refused to invite. My opinion

    • Messi never won a trophy for Argentina. That is not enough a reason to say he is an average player. Therefore, the fact that Kelechi’s set of U20 didn’t qualify for the world cup neither did not erase the fact that they won at U17. I believe that is a very unfair yardstick in this case. I personally do not think Rohr is clueless but I think he should not be rigid either. This team has two major problems which firstly bother on getting a prolific striker and secondly creativity in the midfield (especially in Mikel-s absence). MAYBE if there is more creativity in the midfield the like of Ighalo can wake up. If at this point we see any player who shows enough promise in that role, I think we should not dismiss such without giving a closer look. I believe others who show promises can wait but Kelechi deserves a chance to prove himself in that very crucial area of lack at the moment. If he is dropped after given a GENUINE & HONEST consideration then so be it.

  • Sometimes, i feel so bad when i see how some of us think. Now,almodt everyone is clamoring for Nwakali who was left out of world cup squad, just after watching a friendly match. Asking rohr to drop john ogu who has been part of the team’s chemistry for a growing nwakali says alot about us. If you have been conversant with this super eagles team, you will understand that these condemned guys (agu and agbo) are regulars for their teams and they gave a good account of themselves when called upon. The only time mikel agu had a bad match, he was played out of position to cover for an injured player. Infact,i wouldn’t in any way blame him because he was in to help build a strong defensive mildfield to maintain a scoreline.
When there is an emergency to introduce someone in the unusual absence of mikel or onazi or ndidi, what you need is experience at this same level and trust me nwakali is still young for that. The same logic goes for Abraham of England. Nobody dare say they aint good enough, but there world is well on the way. I stand to be corrected tho.

Hmmmmmm……..I love our usual passionate support for the Super eagles. My take: K. Nwakali I have known from his u17 days in Niger republic where they came 3rd during the u17 AFCON. His immense talents are not in doubt. This much has always been corroborated by his youth days coach – Mr. Emmanuel Amuneke.
He is obviously one for the future – AFCON 2019 qualifiers on my mind. Definitely not as part of the Russia 2018 list of 23. However, if the technical crew deem it fit, they could take him along as a non-registered player to the world cup for obvious future indelible experience that will definitely help him along the way. For the upcoming friendlies (DR Congo, England, and Czech Republic, he could also be allowed to TRAIN (train only but not play for obvious reasons) with the A team so he starts getting used to the set up. This is because he is way ahead of his class of 2015 golden eaglets. For other players like M. Usman,
    V. osimhen, C. Nwakali etc., I am aware that after Russia 2018 end July, some of the current players will retire, some will be deemed not measuring up to standards, and some will naturally fade out; so there will be room to integrate those that have what it takes. For now guys, let’s relax, support the team, pray for injury free grace for the yet to be named 23, and enjoy the world cup party with our team………..mark my words, K. Nwakali, all things being equal is the midfield maestro in waiting for the Qatar 2022 world cup squad. That’s the peak for the young precocious talent.

  • Cherechi 3 years ago

Uncles Debo and Chaseky thanks for your understanding, Kelechi is an excellent player and Gernot Rohr knows about that and I strongly believe that after world cup that’s when Gernot Rohr will the major work he has with Nigeria and some players will definitely come in during AFCON qualifiers which Kelechi will be among.
