Nigeria Under-17 team captain Kelechi Nwakali has rallied his teammates to focus their
undivided attention on South Africa in Wednesday’s Caf U-17 African Championship semi-final clash.
The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have qualified for the Fifa Under-17 World Cup like their South African counterparts, Amajimbos, but now want to reach the final of the African tournament for a second successive edition.
Nwakali has made it clear that the Nigerian squad are focused on their outing in Niger Republic, including the semifinal clash with South Africa.
He dismissed talks of football agents marauding around the camp of the team as a distraction.
“All we need now is focus on the games ahead and not to be disturbed by agents.
“We don’t need anybody to come and tell us about clubs to sign for after the competition. We
want Nigeria to pray for us so that we can win the trophy after losing it two years ago to Ivory Coast.
“I am confident that we have the team to take the trophy back to Nigeria,” he said.
Nwakali is joint top scorer at this year’s tournament with his countryman Victor Osimhen and
Guinea’s Boubacar Traore. They are all on three goals.
