Nwosu Backs Siasia For Super Eagles Job, Rejects Foreign Coach

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Former Super Eagles midfielder Christopher Nwosu has given his backing to the long-term stint of Samson Siasia as coach of the Nigerian senior national team.

Siasia oversaw Nigeria’s last two 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt but the three-time African champions eventually failed to qualify for the tournament in Gabon.

The Nigerian sports minister Solomon Dalung and the Nigeria Football Federation are scheduled to meet on Tuesday to deliberate on the issue of an expatriate or Nigerian coach for the team.

“I hope the outcome of the meeting between the sports minister and the Nigeria Football Federation will be productive and in the best interest of Nigerian football,” Nwosu told Completesportsnigeria.com from his base in Germany.

“If you ask me, Samson Siasia should be given the chance to continue as coach of the Super Eagles. Not qualifying for the next AFCON was not his fault. The team had been in crisis even before he was hired on interim basis to handle the team.

“If some Nigerians say the NFF should hire a foreign coach, what is the calibre of coach we are looking at, a world class coach or just any coach in white skin.”

What Nwosu is suggesting makes good sense. What foreign Coach are we sure to contract for the Eagles? Guadiola? Morinho? Sir Alex Ferguson? Who??? May be just another coach in white skin? Thank is the issue, period. We just cannot afford a quality White Coach, with the way things are with the NFF and Nigerians in general. So, why not make do with what we have and make, and get the best out of it, than expose further our arrogance and incompetence at organisation? Foolish pride you might want to say?
