Former Nigeria midfield captain Henry Nwosu says the Super Eagles must approach their crucial Group D Russia 2018 World Cup clash against Iceland in Friday like a cup final.
After losing 2-0 to Croatia in their opening group game, the Super Eagles must now beat Iceland to get their campaign back on track.
Iceland had an impressive debut World Cup appearance as they held two-time World Cup winners Argentina to a 1-1 draw.
“Iceland is a team that people don’t know much about them and that’s where it is difficult,”Nwosu who was an assistant coach to Adegboye Onigbinde at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan, told completesportsnigeria.com
“But if our players can go into the match and give their all, then they will comke out victorious. They should play the game as if it is a cup final. If that is done, I can assure you that they will carry the day.
The 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner went on to express confidence in the ability of Gernot Rohr to lead the team to victory.
He added:”Having said that, now that we lost to Croatia what we need to do is check where we made mistakes and correct them. I still believe in Gernot Rohr and I believe he must have seen his mistakes and he will turn things around.”
