The Super Eagles of Nigeria have received a timely boost ahead of their round of 16 tie against France as central defender Godfrey Oboabona has been passed fit.
Obaboana went out injured in Nigeria’s first game at the World cup missing the last two group games due to it.
The former Sunshine Stars captain failed a late fitness test prior to the last game but has participated in full training sessions since then.
In his absence captain Joseph Yobo has deputised admirably but his return to match fitness will gladden the hearts of team handlers and fans of the team due to his two years near perfect understanding with Kenneth Omeruo in the heart of Eagles defence.
It’s not yet known if he will be reinstated into the team’s starting line up to beef up a defence that conceded three goals in their last group game against Argentina.
Aside his defensive abilities, Obaboana is also a threat to opponents defence at set pieces due to his free kicks abilities and aerial prowess.
His partnership with Kenneth Omeruo was the foundation upon which Nigeria lifted the AFCON trophy last year as the Eagles went unbeaten from their second game when he paired with his old Sunshine Stars pal.
