–Super Eagles sings victory songs
With Nigeria’s Super Eagles playing Congo’s Red Devils this afternoon in what has turned out to be a must win for the African champions. This time, sl10.ng caught up with Eagles defender Godfrey Oboabona and he talks about the game, his club form and so much more.
Godfrey, the importance of the game in Point Noire can never be overemphasized. So let’s start by you sharing your thoughts with us.
Yes we know how important it is, and that is why we are here and we are hoping to get the job done on Saturday. This is not the time for excuses or anything of the sort, we just want to keep our heads high and keep floating so that is why we must win in Congo.
Any win in Congo might be good enough but getting at least a two goal advantage will be perfect for the Eagles. Are you aware of this and how much effort are you putting in to achieve this?
We are very aware of this and we hope to get something like that, but we also know that it is the actual three points that is most important, than the number of goals we score. It will be nice to score as many goals as possible but we have at the back of our minds that it is getting the three points that is the most important and we will work towards ensuring we get that.
The defense has come under some scrutiny lately, with you guys apparently making some wrong judgments during games. Have you worked on this?
It’s not a matter of us making wrong judgments or poor communication or anything like that. When teams concede, people look for different terms for to describe the defense but these things happen. It’s just for us to keep working hard and keep playing as a team and hopefully we will keep getting good results. We communicate well on the pitch but no matter the communication levels, you must still concede goals, but we just have to make sure we don’t concede too many. I don’t think we will hear too much of these if we keep winning.
Let’s talk about your club career now, you initially weren’t a regular with Rizespor but now you have notched up several games. How have you been able to adapt?
I want to thank God for everything happening to me in Turkey. I’m very fine and everything is going well with me. I’ve played seven out of the eight games we have played so far. But sometimes your coach tells you he wants a different variation to how he wants to play and you also have to understand that only five foreigners can start a game in the Turkish league and we are nine foreigners at my club so you have to understand if the coach asks you to sit out a game but so far I would everything is fine.
How much of a relationship would you say you have with the other Nigerian players in Turkey?
We have a very good relationship with one another and I always send them text messages before their games to wish them well and they do the same to me as well. So I would say the relationship is very good.
So what message do you have for the Nigerian fans?
I want to beg the fans because we know we haven’t done so well recently and we are determined to get the results again. Everybody believed that we should have qualified now or have at least ten points but this is where we have found ourselves and everybody wants to win and keep asking for their prayers and we believe by the grace of God we are going to Congo to win and hopefully we will get the win we so desire.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
