Super Eagles striker Osaze Odemwingie could face a shirt war for a starting place at Stoke City next season following the expected arrival of Barcelona youngster Bojan Karcic on a season-long loan.
Odemwingie had a good outing at the World Cup for Nigeria, and in good shape ahead of the new season. But Bojan has decided to join Stoke on loan, seeking a new lease of life, according to reports in Spain.
It had looked as though Stoke’s deal for the 23-year-old Bojan had fallen flat, with Deportivo among other clubs who seemed to have edged ahead of them in the queue.
Stoke defender Marc Muniesa, who left the Nou Camp for the Britannia Stadium last year, is a former teammate of the striker and had suggested that the likelihood of him joining was 50:50.
But now Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Bojan has given the green light to the move and will sign on for the season.
The Spain international was once hailed as the next star of world football after incredible scoring feats for Barca’s youth team.
But he has not yet lived up to his potential in Spain – or during spells at Roma, AC Milan and Ajax.
However, he will now get the chance to prove himself in the Premier League under former Barcelona player Mark Hughes at Stoke City.
