By James Agberebi:
Rotherham United’s new head coach Kenny Jackett has revealed that new signing Osaze Odemwingie is targeting a spot in the Nigeria squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Odemwingie, 35, was without a club following his departure from Stoke City during the close season before signing a short-term deal with Rotherham on Monday.
His last outing for the Super Eagles was at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
And Jackett, who took charge of Rotherham for the first time last weekend, insists Odemwingie’s desire is to add to his 63 caps for Nigeria by featuring at the next World Cup in order to end his career on a high.
“He has been close to one or two moves, but he has signed here and his aim is to work through to the World Cup in 2018, and finish his career off at the highest level he possibly can,” Jackett told Rotherham’s official website on Wednesday.
Jackett, a former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager who hinted that Odemwingie could make his debut this weekend away to Ipswich Town, said he is looking forward to working with the former West Brom forward.
“He is looking to get playing and I am pleased that he can join us straight away,” Jackett said.
“He is up for the fight, he is up for the challenge in terms of where we are in the league and I am looking forward to working with him.
“I think he will be fine for Saturday, he has been training hard and we are really pleased with what we have seen.”Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
