Odemwingie TWEETS During Rotherham Match After Red Card

Ex-Super Eagles striker Osaze Odemwingie apologised in a dramatic way on Saturday after being sent off during his Championship club Rotherham’s 2-1 defeat by Leeds United.

The outspoken Nigerian tweeted his apology for the red – while the game was still on – raising a few eyebrows.

He was dismissed after appearing to elbow Liam Cooper in the 29th minute of the second-tier match.

“I was unlucky with the red card,” Odemwingie tweeted as the second half was being played.

“We all normally jump with our hands up to protect each other and expected his to be up as well.

“I didn’t mean to but caught the player and accept the referee had no choice. Hope the boys get something out of the game. Ups and downs.”

Odemwingie,  who once got into big trouble with Nigerian football authorities for tweeting abuse at national team officials, watched from the stands as his relegation-threatened side, who are eight points adrift at the bottom of the table,  lost yet again.

He tweeted again after the match: “Great effort from the boys. Had the chances to equalise. Proud of them giving us hope for the season. Second half performance was top class.”
