Oduamadi Faults Flying Eagles Tactics

By Johnny Edward:

Nnamdi Oduamdi criticised Manu Garba’s tactical methods after the Flying Eagles exited from the FIFA World Cup on Thursday.

The Flying Eagles lost 1-0 to Germany in the round of 16 after winning two straight games in the group against Korea DPR and Hungary.

”We were starved of possession and could not play football the way we used to,” the AC Milan star began in a chat with Completesportsnigeria.com.

”We didn’t threaten them at all, but for me the Flying Eagles gave their best.

”When things go in a certain direction, there is a moment where you dream and you think that things are possible, even if things are not.

”And because we did well in the group stage I felt we could challenge the Germans but we did not do it.”

Like I had noted and wrote earlier, we talk too much before a big match like this, and when we do, we end up like we have just done. We should allow the field of play to do the talking. At this level, the game is more techical, and is usual won by the bench off the field. It requires a very sound bench to execute. In the lower throngs, we use over-aged boys to overrun other teams. Here, our coaches lack that expertise to read the match and effect the right changes in tactics, formation or key players, to effect. Something is wrong somewhere with the performance of our idigenous coaches in this respect. Matches here, and at the very senior levels, are won from the bench. The players may be technically good, as the German coach has said, but they did the right thinking and adopted the right strategy to contain our "technically sound" boys. The same thing Brazil did at half time to contain us. It is so sad!
