John Ogu says Hapoel Beer Sheva have shifted focus to Saturday’s Israeli Ligat ha’Al opener against Maccabi Netanya on following their 2-1 home win over Maribor in their first leg match of the UEFA Champions League playoffs on Wednesday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Israeli champions got off to a brilliant start in the UCL playoffs, thanks to goals from Anthony Nwakaeme and a first half stoppage penalty kick goal from Shir Tzedek that cancelled out Marcos Tavares’ 10th minute opener.
Ogu, 29 years old, tweeted on Thursday: “Work continues. We will keep working hard to improve. Onto the League starting on Saturday. Thanks to our fans last night for the support.”
The Nigeria international is also confident the Camels will break their jinx of not qualifying for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League when they take on Slovenian side Maribor over two legs.
The second leg of this tie will hold in Slovenia on 22nd of August.
The Camels lost 5-4 on aggregate to Celtic at this stage last season but hold a 2-1 first leg advantage going into the second leg next week.
