Nigeria midfielder, John Ogu, believes Mikel Obi still has a role to play in the Super Eagles.
Chelsea midfielder Mikel was excluded from the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania as the Eagles laboured to a 0-0 draw.
Ogu, who was also left out by coach Sunday Oliseh, made a case for Mikel during a chat session with fans on Twitter.
“Mikel’s experience is needed in any national team. He has won it all and it is not a fluke he has played under top managers,” Hapoel Be’er Sheva midfielder Ogu wrote.
Ogu, who canvassed support for Oliseh, described the 0-0 draw with Tanzania as a fair result. He also refused to complain about his exclusion while praising the excellent Carl Ikeme.
“We need to give the coach (Sunday Oliseh) time to work, he is building,” Ogu added.
“I am a player who will always respect the decision of the boss. Everyone cannot play. When it is my turn, I will play.
“Watching all Carl Ikeme did, it is an honour having another talent in the Super Eagles.”
