Ogunbote: COPA Lagos Challenge Will Be Nice Experience

Shooting Stars of Ibadan coach and ersthwhile handler of Sunshine Stars, Gbenga Ogunbote has positives derivable from beach soccer as the 2015 edition of the COPA Lagos beach soccer club challenge gets set to kick off on December 18.


Ogunbote also handled Sharks of Port Harcourt after leading Sunshine Stars to CAF confederation Cup semi-finals twice posited that beach soccer will fast-track the growth of Nigerian dosmestic leaque.

"The introduction of  beach soccer club challenge  for the second time running with the participation of FC Barcelona, Kano Pillars and Pepsi Academy will be another experience for every participating team,putting into consideration that beach football is still at the cradle stage and may come with some roughness, but will at the long run be better for Nigeria football," Ogunbote said.

"This is the practise in advanced countries where beach soccer is used to recycle retired professional footballers and also used as pre-season training for clubs as a strengthning exercise."

Similarly, former Super Eagles player Waidi Akanni  said beach soccer is good for Football development in the country.

"Football development has its roots from club football and competitions and not the  participation in national and international football competitions", Akanni  said.

He likened Nigeria performances in the 80s and 90s as  products of club football activites.

The ersthwhile Lagos state FA chairman called for total support for the Beach Soccer Club Challenge from every stakeholder in order to help the development of soccer in  the country.
