–As Nigeria’s 4 x 100 women’s team settle for silver
Nigeria continued her impressive run in the track and field event of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, with three silver medals in the women‘s 4X100, 4X400 and men’s triple jump.
The quartet of Gloria Asunmu, Blessing Okagbare, Dominique Duncan and Lauretha Ozoh were beaten to the gold medal by Shelly Ann Fraser Price inspired Jamaican team. England picked bronze in the event.
Earlier the 4X400 women’s relay quartet of Patience George, Ada Benjamin, Regina George and Folashade Abugan won silver medal in the event.
Jamaica won the race in a time of 3:23:82 secs with the Nigerian ladies coming close in a time 3:24:71 secs. Nigerian born English woman Christine Ohurogu and her teammates could only settle for bronze in a time of 3:27:24 sec.
The disappointing performance of Nigeria’s men track team continued at the 4X400 as the team finished in a disappointing seventh position in the final.
Also the men‘s 4X100 team finished sixth in a race won by Jamaica, anchored by Usain Bolt.
However, Tosin Oke salvaged silver medal in the triple jump.
