Okocha: Don’t Blame Keshi And Players For AFCON Woes

By Nnamdi Ezekute:

Former Nigeria captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha , has firmly proclaimed that neither Stephen Keshi nor the players should be exonerated from blame for the Super Eagles serial slump in the 2015 AFCON qualifiers exacerbated by the 1-0 thumping by Sudan in Kartoum on Saturday.

Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2015 AFCON are in tatters after struggling to earn only a point from three matches. Keshi who has been without a substantive contract since the end of the 2014 FIFA World Cup is facing intense criticisms from the teeming Nigerian fans who want him axed without any further delay.

Okocha is however standing firm in defense of Keshi, and he gestures that a long-standing ruin in Nigerian football has just caught up with the Super Eagles.

“Well done S.A.(Super Eagles). Not the result most Nigerians expected though. We have to step up our game and grab the next 6 points to have a chance,” Okocha writes through his Twitter handle: @IAmOkocha, shortly after Sudan handed Keshi’s team a shock defeat.”

Jay Jay admonishes: “Anyone that blames Keshi or the boys is short sighted. Our football is long dead and gone. This is just the confirmation.”

Nigeria are at the bottom of the Group A with one point, behind South Africa (7 pts), Congo (6 pts) and Sudan (3 pts).

The Super Eagles host Sudan in their reverse fixture on Wednesday, October 15 in Abuja. South Africa will be home to Congo same day. The Bafana Bafana won 2-0 away against the Congolese in the first leg.

In as much as some great football personalities like Jay Jay would not like to join issues with their big boss, And even Kanu would not like to be on the bad books of anyone whatsoever; let them ask Keshi to conduct a self evaluation of his own last 12 matches and give Nigerians the final result. Let him tell us if he would allow a particular player fumble 11 out of 12 times and still be in the team.

The in-house fighting at the Glass House is not the reason we have been failing before the world cup. It is pride, senseless stubbornness and technical deficiency. Period! And all these points to Keshi alias Big Bros.
