Thorbjorn Olesen says it would be a dream come true if he claimed the spoils on home soil at this week’s Made In Denmark. The European Tour heads to Silkeborg Ry Golf Club this week and home favourite Olesen, who won the Italian Open in June, has more than just another trophy to play for.
A top-seven finish for the 28-year-old Dane would guarantee the eighth and final automatic spot on Thomas Bjorn’s Ryder Cup team for the event at Le Golf National in France.
Winning on home soil would also be a great feeling for the world number 40 and he is hopeful of enjoying a positive week in Aarhus.
“It would mean everything,” he was quoted as saying by the European Tour. “It’s kind of like the fifth major for us, the crowds have been amazing and to win on home soil would be very, very special – it’s a dream. There have been a few Danish guys go close so far and hopefully one of us can do it this time.
“So far every year has been great, the support from the spectators and all the staff and the sponsors, it’s been a great venue not just for the Danish players but all the players have enjoyed it so far, so I’m looking forward to getting to a new venue this time – I’ve heard a lot of good things about the golf course so I’m looking forward to seeing it.”
