By Adeboye Amosu:

Former Super Eagles head coach, Sunday Oliseh, has expressed confidence in the ability of the side to qualify for next year's Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, denying he quit the post as a result of fears the team might lose the ticket to Egypt, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.

Oliseh resigned from his post as handler of the three-time African champions  on Thursday after spending only eight months in the role.

"I didn't chicken out," the former Juventus midfielder told Brila FM from his base in Belgium,  Saturday morning.

"We have the players to help us qualify for the AFCON in Gabon.

"Egypt are not as good as they were four years ago, we can beat them."

Nigeria will host Egypt at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna in the first leg of their 2017 AFCON qualifier on Friday, March 25.

The reverse fixture will take place in Cairo, on Tuesday, March 29.
