Efe Ajagba, Nigeria’s sole boxing entrant to the 2016 Olympic Games, has already resumed intensive training in Lagos ahead of the games.
Complete Sports gathered that Ajagba, a 91+ kg heavyweight fighter, is camped at the Nigeria Boxing Federation’s hostel at the National Stadium, Surulere.
Assistant secretary of the federation, Ebone Omagbemi, confirmed to Complete Sports that the boxing body has decided to deploy everything humanly possible to ensure that Ajagba wins a medal at the Rio Games.
To this end Ajagba, the All Africa Games champion in his weight category, is in camp with two sparring partners –Ramon Razak of FCT and Gabriel Francis of Lagos State.
“We are preparing him for the tough task ahead in spite of the fact that we are constrained by cash.” Omagbemi said. “Apart from the coaches, Ajagba has been sparring with other top boxers. A former amateur champion who also represented Nigeria at 2008 Olympic Games, Onoriode Ehwarieme, was in camp with him in the opening week.
“We are very hopeful that Ajagba will perform at the games.”
