Olympics: Nigeria’s Sole Boxer Ajagba To Depart For Rio Monday

By James Agberebi:

Nigeria's sole representative in the boxing event at this year's Olympics in Rio, Efe Ajagba, will head for the games on Monday, Completesportsnigeria.comreports.

Boxing coach Tony Konyegwachi disclosed that both Ajagba and himself will first head to Abuja on Saturday before departing for Rio two days later.

On Ajagba's chances, Konyegwachi expressed confidence that will not disappoint despite being Nigeria's only boxer at this year's Olympics.

"Training has been great, everything has gone as planned. I am confident that Efe will do the country proud in Rio."

Ajagba, fighting in the super heavyweight category, will hope to break Nigeria's 20-year wait for a medal in the boxing event at the Olympics.

The last time Nigeria won a medal in boxing was in Atlanta 1996 when Duncan Dokiwari won a bronze medal.
