  • Omeruo, it’s clear, will always have the tendency to switch off at key moments which haven’t gone unpunished for the Super Eagles.

I am very much a fan of the prolific Chelsea-loanee who appears to have finally found a place a to call home in Spain after many seasons of itinerant football.

Settling down in club football will also translate to settling down in international football only if he delivers himself of the spirit of costly errors that directly led to goals against South Africa and Zambia.

Jamilu Collins will do well not to assume that ‘he has arrived’ in international football.

The Germany based left back is winning hearts and minds of Super Eagles fans but true tests await him against quality oppositions on the continent.

Nowadays, right footed players have been known to be deployed in left back position.

So, with the likes of Idowu, Aina, Udoh Utin, Ebuehi (and some will say Musa Mohammed) breathing down his neck, Collins can ill afford to put his foot off the gas for Nigeria.

He is decent but not the complete left back that many have already allowed themselves to be carried away to conclude.

Olanrewaju Kayode will be secretly rueing his decision to leave Austria where his blistering form bolstered his national team chances .

A combination factors, like options open to Rohr (eg Ighalo, Success, Iheanacho) and his wretched club form (substitute appearances + 0 goals to his name), mean that his national team prospects are evaporating by the day.
