Kenneth Omeruo will most likely be on the pitch for Middlesbrough when they take on Arsenal in the FA Cup today at the Emirates Stadium.
The Super Eagles defender has been in and out of the Boro first team this season, having to play second fiddle to Ben Gibson and Dani Ayala, who are coach Aitor Karanka’s preferred central defensivepair.
However, with Ayala out injured for the next month Omeruo appears to be the favourite to fill his void.
The on loan Chelsea defender filled in admirably for Ayala in the three games he was suspended but lost his spot when the Argentine returned from his ban in last weekend game.
The Nigeria International paired with Gibson at the heart of Boro defence and helped the team keep three clean sheets in the game he played in Ayala’s forced absence.
Although Ayala went off injured on his return, Ben Gibson was preferred to the Nigerian as replacement but Jonathan Woodgate needing a rest, Omeruo is back in contention.
If he gets picked by Karanka against Arsenal, he will be making his second appearance in the FA Cup, as he was omitted in their shock victory over Manchester City in the previous round.
