Omeruo: We Didn’t Rebel Against Keshi

–Boro defender says Eagles will correct their mistakes against Congo in Brazaville
By Johnny Edward:

Middlesbrough defender Kenneth Omeruo has debunked claims the Super Eagles rebelled against re-instated coach Stephen Keshi.

The Super Eagles began their AFCON qualifiers on a shaky note losing two of their four games, which cost Keshi his job initially and put Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2015 African Nations Cup in Morocco in doubt.

In an interview posted on youtube by Claude Atcheba, Omeruo also assured that the Eagles have learnt from their mistakes in their defeats and will seize the chance to defend their AFCON crown in Morocco next year.

“Keshi didn’t lose the dressing room like people claimed,” Omeruo who has missed Boro’s last three games in the Championship began.

“You could see after the win in Abuja how everyone was happy. Keshi has always been himself since the first day I joined the team and everything was perfect until we lost those two games.”

Omeruo who was one of Nigeria’s standout players as they lifted the AFCON for a third time in South Africa also assured that the Eagles have learnt from the defeats to Congo and Sudan and will redeem their image in their final two games.

“We still have a chance and we just have to make sure we take every opportunity we have now,” he added.

“The win in Abuja shows how well we can play in a better environment and I believe we can win in Congo.

“We have played against them and now we know why we lost. All we need to do now is to correct those mistakes from the start of the game to the end.”

The 21-year-old defender who made his debut for the senior national team in 2013 against Cape Verde Islands in a friendly also urged his teammates not to lose concentration.

“We must not lose concentration because that was one of the reasons we lost at home.”Omeruo said.

The defence is the problem with the Super Eagles. They lack concentration, are not aggressive enough and tend to cluster together instead of marking the opposing players closely. I hope Keshi corrects the problems before the away match to Congo.
