Omeruo Upbeat Eagles Will Qualify For AFCON 2019, Noncommittal On Chelsea Future

By Johnny Edward:

Chelsea defender, Kenneth Omeruo, is looking forward to Nigeria’s 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles in Victoria, and expresses his firm optimism that the Super Eagles will fly the country’s flag in Cameroon next year, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Omeruo remains confident that the experience gained and lessons learnt from their group stage campaign at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia will help in Nigeria’s quest of qualifying for the tournament.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, and the currently placed third in the Group E of the Cameroon 2019 qualifiers behind leaders Libya and South Africa.

Seychelles are rock bottom in the group.

“We have to build on the lessons learnt in Russia and the immediate effect of that will be rallying back from that loss to South Africa in Uyo in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers,” Omeruo told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“We will play Seychelles away in September, and with our quality, we should be confident of winning.”

Gernot Rohr’s men will face Libya on October 10 at home, with the reverse fixture holding five days later in Tripoli.

The reverse fixture against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa is scheduled for November 16 2018.

The Super Eagles will round off their AFCON 2019 qualifying campaign with a home fixture against Seychelles on the 22nd of March 2019.

Omeruo also reveals that he will be rejoining Chelsea for pre-season but keeps mum about the details of his future at the club.

“Except something happens so soon, I will be joining Chelsea for pre-season. The future will take care of itself,” he said.

The defender played for Turkish top flight league side Kasimpasa on loan from Chelsea last season. It was his fifth loan spell away from the Stamford Bridge side.

He previously had loan spells at ADO Den Haag, Middlesbrough, Kasimpasa, Alanyaspor and another stint with Kasimpasa last season.

  • Left to some over sabi coach here this guy for not make the team to world cup. That is the kind of problem they create and later they started crying by blaming the coach. All best bro

  • If Omeruo was in the pitch against South Africa in Uyo in June 2017, would he have positioned himself to rise highest and prevent Rantie’s 54th minute header that evaded Akpeyi?

A major issue emerging in Nigeria’s football of late is not unavailability of suitable players, rather it is the inability to select available players in suitable positions.

In Omeruo, Nigeria has a defender that held his own against mighty Didier Drogba in 2013; one that is dependable and sturdy at the back.

Yes, Omeruo has had his fair share of error-riddled performances but that doesn’t diminish the shine from an otherwise overall impressive outings in the national colour.

Will we see the likes of Awaziem or Stephen Eze picked ahead of him in future? It would not surprise me.

What is the essence of going to a tournament without a solid plan.

What is the purpose of going to a tournament without having a mentality of winning the championship.

Again, as a coach who knows what he is doing very well, must believe in himself and his team.

I watched Belgium and Brazil yesterday, I saw the Belgium coach and his team reactions and I told myself, this is a team that knows what its doing.

We are not ready for the big stage yet. We don’t have plays who can dictate the game anymore. The players who knows what they can do at a satain time and get us result. The only thing the current team has is mouth, they are very boastful.

We don’t have coach as far as I concerned. The assistance coaches are not good enough to help the team.

The best thing NFF can do now is to consider our local coaches. Eagles need a coach who can read the game, who hava
Self confidence, vision and self believe and determination.

A coach who can tell his players at a particular time, oh guys, this is how I want my team to play. The coach who must have a plan A, plan B and plan C for a match and get his tactics right in every game. That is the coach the Super Eagles needs not a coach who doesn’t know himself well talk less of his players. God bless Nigeria!!!

Good point and at this era we are yet to taste Quater finals and exiting the world cup at group stage tells that we are not ready plus we don’t have ambitious players like omo9ja stated all they have is mouth and dancing in bus when other teams are dancing after winning trophies. Nigeria is the only team that came to WC talking about Jersey this and that. Tayo and Deo I know not everyone has a winning mentality that is why you and some of your kinds will take F9 as a good result without future improvements. As for Edoman and my fellow correct patriotic Nigerians we are not going to take even a B3 as a result when we know that we all have one head and 2 legs like our European counterparts and what we seek is whatever it is that doesn’t make us match the rest of the world must be fixed and we want it fixed now not next year but starting from nowwww

If you see how the English play they are not spectacular but they are smart just like pickford stated and these are areas our players are lacking behind including our oyinbo coach who will rest an iwobi for no good reason when we lack intelligent ball moving players. NFF must take our players through football education with this our boys will be psyched to take good decisions and also aim big as a footballer. Tell me which of our players dreams to be a world best like messi or Ronaldo? Immediately after u17 they all start making bad decisions iheanacho for example what is he doing today when we all saw our he dazzled the world. If he was a Brazilian the story will be different. Goodnight

      • Thanks for your kind words.

      • This Chima E Samuel never has anything useful to say just to insult others. He is a lunatic, a pure mad man.

Complete sports i hope this comment goes through so some idiotic readers will learn to respect their Elders

          • Wow easy governor…. One love. You should learn to tolerate the views of those disagree rather talk about them in a disparaging manner.
Anyway, I will check you out on Facebook and if you are not as opulent as you claim to be, I will be very disappointed.
Don’t take what I said too seriously though as it was typed in the heat of the moment. I was on YouTube the other week and I listened to this smashing tune called heat of the moment and it goes…IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT, I LOST MY HEAD, I LOST MY MIND I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT TO DO, I THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT, I FELL IN LOVE WITH YOU. One love men.

  • Quoting Michelle Obama, when they sink low, we should go high and higher.

The ability to make one’s points without insulting others is a skill to which a precious few possess.

@deo, you should see some of the comments that i have received, even if it’s written in atrocious english and bad grammar, just for having a dissenting opinion.
It’s certain that some people have invested all their life’s happiness and little self-worth on the performance of the Super Eagles.

    • Let’s forgive and forget.

At the end of the day, we are all fighting for the same cause.

though the coaches made some errors in team selection and tactics,i think we should give them d benefit of doubt to rebuild the team ..

Since our coach said he will only stick with those players who qualified super eagles to the world cup then I knew that he was not ready to perform well in the tournament that’s eventually what we can see at the end if it all. Imagine the introduction of
Cyriel dessers against Argentina that night at the expense of the so wasteful and useless ighalo the result would have been different.
I am not really expecting anything special from that man called gernot Rohr.
I have never in my entire past life watching my darling super eagles playing a match with so much fear and nervousness.
He said Nigeria players are too young to perform creditably well then I asked are the super eagles players younger than mbape, lingard and so many other players still present in the world cup?
    I missed Henry onyekuru,
    I missed Samuel Kalu,
    I missed Cyriel dessers,
    I missed kayode olanrewaju,
    I missed Hillary chakwah gong,
    I missed Musa Muhammed,
If Rohr can’t scout by himself he should contact me. I can do a better job than Victor Aghali.

  • Dis sunday may God bring down his blessing upon all my fellow wisemen on dis forum AMEN. i pray to u pple bcuz of ur effort, to make our darlin super eagle back to it glory.

    @Chima E samuel
    @Abdul ander
@Edoman and my fellow notable wisemen may God bless u all including me. so Gernot rohr must go.

we can only cal him back wen we have players like ronaldo messi delima ronaldo ronaldinho okocha etc on super eagle squad. bcuz only diz mention player can make to confident aside from diz, na to praise opponent.

I stil dont know why iwobi didnt start dat match. Keep up ur good talks, and dont mind diz pple dat dance and happy wit F9 as a good result.

    • Oh my. What a coalition of Chao, the ultimate collection of the clueless. A class of clowns and the coming together of calamity.
Una fit each other no be small.

  • If it was only people like ashy slashy and co. ar in a country den such country is acursed

    • That’s a bit harsh. One love brother.

    • There should not be only people like my humble self in any country because that would be boring.
Variety is the spice of life. You and your lot should learn to be more tolerant of views of others.
Now, let me go back to my music video.Ricky Martins forever:

      She’s into superstitions
      Black cats and voodoo dolls
      I feel a premonition
That girl’s gonna make me fall
      She’s into new sensation
      New kicks in the candlelight
      She’s got a new addiction
      For every day and night
      She’ll make you take your
Clothes off and go dancing in the rain
She’ll make you live her crazy life
But she’ll take away your pain
Like a bullet to your brain

      Upside inside out
      She’s livin’ la vida loca
She’ll push and pull you down
      Livin’ la vida loca
      Her lips are devil red
And her skin’s the color of mocha
      She will wear you out
      Livin’ la vida loca
      She’s livin la vida loca

you are right my friend. he made too many blunders against argentina…another was he should ve settled for the draw, by putting in Ogu for Musa at 80 mins. Also Simeon Nwankwo for Iheanacho. Everyone but him saw that joel obi was garbage. The only reason he took him was reputation and the only reason he didnt trust Ogu to come in against Argentina was club reputation. He was looking for a big star to bring in, which was wrong. He didnt accept the players as they are. I think with same backing and support, Siasia would have done better.

I pity Ogu, he is such a powerful and quality player but ve not met a good nigerian coach that trust hime enough to put him in that midfield. Keshi dropped him for Reuben Gabriel in 2014. nd in 2018, was not given a run. he will be 34 next world cup and i hope he is available because his experience and long range shooting will be key.
