Omeruo: We Didn’t Deserve To Lose

From Mumini Alao in Brasilia:

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo admits that despite the promising performance of the Nigerian side in their 2-0 loss to France, the team cannot be consoled by that fact and insists the players and officials are disappointed by the result in the last 16 game.

“We’re disappointed. This (losing in the second round) is not what we planned before coming to the World Cup. Our target was the semi-final.

“A lot of people will not believe we could have done it but that was our target,” Omeruo stated.

“We were not distracted (by money issues). You could see that we controlled the match for long periods. We had a good goal disallowed. France were lucky. We did not deserve to lose,” Omeruo, a Chelsea player who was on loan at Middlesbrough last season concluded.

Omeruo had a convincing World Cup outing though he was solely missed in the team’s campaign at the Confederations Cup last year in Brazil.

Omeruo, we celebrate ur role in d team. It’s painful that many, even among the technical crew don’t have ur kind of mentality. We are proud of u. Other players whould wake up!
