Nigeria international midfielder Ogenyi Onazi says he has never been racially abused in Italy.
Italy has been in the centre of a number of racist incidents recently in world football with footballers of African descent usually targeted for attack.
Ghanaian midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng famously walked off the pitch after he was abused by racists in the 26th minute of AC Milan’s friendly against fourth division club Pro Patria in January 2013.
Onazi, however, says he has never faced an unpleasant situation with racists since he joined Serie A club SS Lazio in 2012.
“I will be lying if I said I am not aware of racism or racists in Italy but I have never been racially abused since I started playing here,” Onazi told supersport.com.
The midfielder has recently been struggling to nail down a spot in the Lazio first team, making just seven league appearances this season.
He identified a combination of factors as being responsible for his limited number of minutes this term.
“We have a new coach at Lazio. Apart from that, things have been a bit complicated because I was injured recently.
