By David Meshioye:
Super Eagles and Lazio SC midfielder, Onazi Ogenyi has expressed his delight and relief over Nigeria’s bright start in the Gabon 2017 AFCON qualifiers.
Nigeria labored to a 2-0 win over Le Sao of Chad on Saturday at the Ahmadu Bello stadium Kaduna, but Onazi maintained that the win will go a long way to propel the team in their upcoming match against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam.
He said unlike the qualifiers for the 2015 edition where Super Eagles suffered a shock home loss to Congo Brazzaville in Calabar, Saturday’s win will give the team the much needed tonic to gather valuable points as they attempt to qualify for Gabon 2017 AFCON.
“To God be the glory for this win, it is the right step in the right direction. This win will really propel us to get valuable points in our subsequent games. We want to make it to Gabon 2017 and this win is what we need to begin that journey,” he said.
He further apologized over his red card incident on Saturday, while thanking fans for their unalloyed support towards the team.
“I let my team mates and our loyal fans down with my action on the pitch today. I apologize for my actions. Thank you for your usual support.
