The proposed contract renewal of Ogenyi Onazi with his Italian club SS Lazio scheduled for the end of this month has been put on hold, according to Italian website Il Corriere dello Sport.
Contrary to the earlier reported offer, the Biancoceleste have tabled a new three year deal worth €650,000 with a buyout clause of €10m, which has been rejected by the representatives of the 21 year old midfielder who is holding out for €1m.
It is believed that Onazi’s demand will alter the wage structure at the club and Lazio President, Claudio Lotito may pull the plugs on the deal if the Nigerian international decides to see off his current contract.
Onazi has two years left on his current deal and might be sanctioned by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) following irregularities discovered in the contract the Nigerian signed with the capital outfit on November 7, 2012.
The contract renewal signed by the Nigerian is currently being investigated by the Federal Court-National Disciplinary Section.
