Injured Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi is expected to be back in action before the end of the calendar year after undergoing a scan, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
The Lazio man was harshly tackled by France midfielder Blaise Matuildi during the France versus Nigeria Round of 16 World Cup tie in Brasilia last Monday which left the resourceful star with a badly broken ankle.
Completesportsnigeria.com inside sources in the team reveal that the scan went successful and the player is likely to play again this year.
“Onazi is going to be out for a very long time, probably will miss some months in the upcoming season. However he is expected to be back before the end of the year. The injury was very bad but Onazi has forgiven Matuildi for that horrific tackle and has now started his rehabilitation,” the source told
Onazi who is presently walking with the aid of crutches is attracting the attention of several European clubs but his possible move elsewhere has effectively been truncated by the injury.
Contrastingly, another source hinted that the midfielder was not by any means happy by the challenge and has called on FIFA to sanction the PSG star. Details of the latter’s account was not readily available at press time
This aligns with Argentina legend Diego Maradona’s call for the world football-governing body to punish Matuidi, suggesting that the horror tackle was worse than Uruguay’s Luis Suarez’s bite of Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini for which he was suspended and fined.
