Former Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde has commended sports minister Solomon Dalung for his desire to ensure credible elections for the sporting federations, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports on Friday announced the dissolution of boards of national sports federations in preparation for the election of new board members.
Dalung made the announcement in a statement signed by Nneka Anibeze, Special Assistant on Media to the Minister.
"The decision was apparently taken in a bid to ensure a good and transparent elections," Onigbinde told Completesportsnigeria.com on Saturday.
"I support any steps which the ministry feel is best for the federations under its supervision.
"This may not be a football matter but it's still about Nigerian sports and we should support the minister so long as whatever steps he takes are within the laws and won't infringe on the relationship between Nigeria and the federations in charge of these sports globally."
Dalung directed all secretaries to take charge of their various federations during the election process.
The election date has been extended to June 13, while other programmes for the electoral process will be adjusted to fit into the new election date, according to the sports ministry's official statement on Friday.
