Onigbinde Backs Odegbami’s FIFA Presidency Bid

By James Agberebi:

Former Super Eagles handler, Adegboye Onigbinde, has extended his best wishes to ex-international, Segun Odegbami, on his bid to become Africa’s first FIFA President.

On Tuesday Odegbami, a 1980 Cup of Nations winner, declared his interest in the race to succeed embattled FIFA President Sepp Blatter.

The election for the post of FIFA President is scheduled for 26th February, 2016 in Zurich, Switzerland.
And when completesportsnigeria.com sought the views of 2002 FIFA World Cup coach Onigbinde, he said: “I wish him all the best.”

When asked why he has decided to throw his hat in the ring for the post, Odegbami posited that it is high time the FIFA goes through a total overhaul, hence his intentions to run for the post.

“The current scandal at FIFA is the organization’s worst crisis in its 111 years of existence. Moving forward, FIFA thus require a new era of leadership that can restore the dignity of the noble sport and that of this esteemed international institution with global followership.”

He stated further:” Times like this call for all concerned members of the global football family to contribute to the actualization of renewed objectives for FIFA by electing a deserving and qualified person, with the right character that can achieve the desired goals and restore confidence and integrity to the organization and its activities.”

  • There is somewhere in the Holy book, Bible that says if you are going to a war you first of all assess the opponent and if you know he is more powerful than you, you make peace or concede defeat. There is another place that says before building a house assess your pocket to see if you can finish the building or else people will laugh at you that you started but could not finish it. The above wise advice was given by our good Lord Jesus. Sometimes I wonder how some politicians will jump into politics without looking at the power of the opponent and at the end they become so broke and devastated. The FIFA presido candidates are sharks and the small fishes will be consumed. There is nothing wrong with trying but trying does not mean that because we should go and attempt to carry a 70 ton crane. If no one is advising these nice guys like M7 when they are venturing into something that will burn them, like Onigbinde, I am saying my mind. These are not joyrides.
