Onigbinde: I’m Proud Of Enyeama

–Says Eagles goalie has right to decide when to quit national team
By Sab Osuji:

Former FIFA and CAF Technical Instructor, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde says he remains proud of Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama in view of the role he played in the Lille of France shot-stopper’s career.

Onigbinde handed Enyeama his first national team cap in 2002 during the FIFA World Cup finals in Korea/Japan, throwing him into the fray in the last group game with Three Lions of England which ended in a barren draw.

Ever since, Enyeama has not looked back as he has held on to the team’s first choice gloves.
Amidst the goalkeeper’s speculation on his international future, the Modakeke High Chief said it’s up the goalkeeper to decide when to call time on his international career.

“I remain proud of Vincent Enyeama, I’m happy having played a role in his blossoming career and I’m even more grateful to God for given me the courage to take the decision I took then when I see him doing so well for both club and country now”, starts Onigbinde who was a former 3SC of Ibadan General Manager.

“When I took that decision to field him in the game with England, I went through emotional trauma because so many things were said against me.

“But watching Enyeama become one of the best in the continent and world gives me joy. But regarding his rumoured contemplation to quit the national team, honestly, I don’t have anything to advise him on that.

“Enyeama is an adult, he knows what is good for him and when to get it. Besides, we’ve not spoken for a long time, so I do not have anything to say.

“He’s been a wonderful goalkeeper and I’m happy and proud of him”, Onigbinde said.
