By Izuchukwu Okosi:
Former Nigeria queen of the tracks,Mary Onyali-Omagbemi, has declared her interest to run for the office of the Vice President of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The former Olympian was guest of late Thursday night programme, Sports Parliament, on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) anchored by former Green Eagles star Segun Odegbami and a panel that included the Group Managing Director of Complete Communications Limited, Alhaji Mumini Alao; former Nigerian star athlete, Enefiok Udobong and sports media guru, Godwin Dudu Orumen.
"Thank God the minister of sports, Solomon Dalung and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) have come together and opened the door for a level-playing ground which is democratic and straight to the point," Onyali told the Parliament.
"If you are passionate, if you think you can do better than the man or woman before you, and you want to take up the position, show us your manifesto so that we can hold you accountable. Its no longer a Federal or State government nomination.
"I've been yearning for this for years. Our fellow ex internationals and administrators have been calling on us to to get in there. You too (referring to Udobong) can also come on board. When I get in there and don't perform then you can hold me accountable, but at least give us a chance," Onyali stressed.
Onyali was in Nigria's 4×100 relay team that won bronze at the Barcelona '92 Olympic Games in a time of 42.81 and won gold at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada in a time of 42.99.
The 49-year-old described the feeling when she looked at the clock and reflected on that relay team she was part of which also included Beatrice Utondu, Faith Idehen and Christy Opara-Thompson.
"Victory is victory. It's sweet whether you represented Nigeria, China or wherever. Once you win, you can't contain the adrenalin in your system. I didn't even know i did most of those things, but whwnever I see that clip (shown during the programme), i see something new," Onyali Omagbemi who once floatef a sports kitsoutfit, Yali-Yali concluded.
Group Managing Director of Complete Communications Limited, publishers of Complete Sports, Alhaji Alao in his closing remark noted:
"I'm glad Mary said "when" she gets in there. That suggests to me that she is confident of winning and I'm excited about that," Alao stated.
"Enee (Udobong) knows he has my support too (to run in any position). Those whp wear the shoe know where it pinches. I'm waiting for the ex internationals who want to get into management.
"I hoped Mary will go into coaching, but maybe we'll start seeing the changes in the federation when she goes into administration."Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
