Onyekuru Assures Eagles Set To Give 100% To Beat Libya

By Adeboye Amosu:
Super Eagles forward, Henry Onyekuru, says the team will go all out for a win in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double- header against Libya, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Gernot Rohr’s men will host the Mediterranean Knights at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo on Saturday, with the reverse fixture to take place on Tuesday in Sfax, Tunisia.

The three-time African champions occupy third position in Group E with three points from their opening two games.

Libya sit at the top of the group with four points, same as the Bafana Bafana of South Africa who have an inferior goal difference.

Onyekuru, who is on loan at Turkish club, Galatasaray from English Premier League side, Everton assures that the Super Eagles are ready to give their best in both games.

“We know what the coach wants from us which is to give our very best against Libya. That is exactly what we intend to do in both games,” the official Twitter handle of the Super Eagles quotes Onyekuru on Friday.

“We will work very hard to win and make our nation proud.”

  • _ Which Players Excite Me? PT 1 _

I respect and value all our players and their contributions regardless of where they play their football.

That said, some of them just excite me for their flair, silkiness and that bit extra quality that is undeniable.

    Who are these?

Ndidi – seeing this guy go about his business is a dream. The neatness of the tackles, energy to cover grounds and willingness to take long range shots excite me.

Etebo – tends to keep things simple but can be hard to shrug off the ball. Stubborn runner with the odd goal or two in him who is fast developing to a central midfielder of repute; Etebo excites me.

Moses Simon – oh, a player after my vert heart. Ball retention; ghosting past defenders, grit, determination (and a cry-baby if he misses a tournament due to injury), this guy excites me a lot.

Success I – pure class if fit. You know he thinks before he plays as you can almost tap into his thought-process. A class act on his day.

Musa – doesn’t always excite me if truth be told. Over time though, I have come to respect him a true legend of Nigeria football (which is a big and bold statement to make). A player for the big games.

Iwobi – pure class all round. Holds the ball, picks out deadly passes, drives the team forward with purposeful runs, reasonable dribbles and classy finishes too. Iwobi is fast becoming the most gifted player we have. Watching him at times is almost like listening to an orchestra.

How about the favoured one, GR’s choice?

        • @deo, what excites me is that the Super eagels are in better shape than they were at the world cup (just 3 months ago).

There is now competition for most positions: Right back, central defence, defensive midfield as well as the wings and attack. Success pushing Ighalo. Musa, Simon, Onyekuru and Iwobi all fighting for left wing. Right wing we have Kalu and maybe Iheanacho. Midfield we seem to have strength on the bench with Ndidi and Etebo on the pitch (Onazi has found his feet and Ogu is a good option to come on)

I’d be happier if we can get (or develop) a world class keeper and striker. I’d also up the competition for places with say a squad of 35 which would allow for injuries, suspensions, loss of form etc. With this in mind, I’d have Left wing Chukwueze (Villareal) as an option, Right wing Okonkwo (Bologna)+ Bonaventure (Brugge), central midfield I’d add Eze (QPR)/Ajagun (Kortjik)/Igbekeme (Real Zaragoza). Defensive midfield I’d add AlHassan (CD Nacional) and Uche Agbo (Standard Lierge) and defence S Eze (Lokomotiv Plovdiv). Right back M Musa (Gorika)and Seth Sinclair (Yeni Matalyspur), left back ikouem (Eyimba).

Finally GK I dont see how Afelokhai (Eyimba)is not called up and central striker Odey (Zenith). Add these to the 24 and we have strength in depth and a resilience to withstand the afore mentioned absences

@BigD, I agreed with you bro. I suggest that Super Eagles should have team B. Its seems like it is time for CSN to address this issue with coach Rohr.

Happy weekend my people. God bless us all. God bless Nigeria!!!
