Onyekuru Hits Late Anderlecht Winner Vs Standard Liège

By David Meshioye:
Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Henry Onyekuru continued his good form as his late strike ensured Anderlecht ran away with three vital points with a 1-0 win over Standard Liège in a Belgian top flight clash on Sunday.

Onyekuru settled the tight match with the winning goal in the 89th minute.

Onyekuru had bagged his first brace for Anderlecht as they narrowly edged past Lokeren 3-2 in a thrilling Belgian First Division A last month.

And he scored his third goal of the season as Anderlecht forced Kortrijk to a 2-2 draw in a Belgian First Division A clash in September.

Sunday’s winning goal against Standard Liege now takes his total tally to five in his last eight games for the club since arriving for a season-long loan from Everton.

The prolific 20-year-old is not in the Super Eagles squad to face Zambia in a key World Cup qualifier in Uyo on Saturday.

Bro i not see any injustice in onyekuru being overlooked. He is still a young chap who have many years to dorn the national jersey but for now he doesnt measure up to what rohr wants in his team. He has been monitored from close quarters during the eagles camping prior to the south african match buh didt seem to impress rohr. I saw his performances against celtic in the champions league and i must admit he is a massive talent with great speed and footwork but still raw. His time will definently come.

      • He should be in the team as far as I am concerned, he is in better shape and confidence than Ahmed Musa who has not made 1 league start for Leicester City’s Matchday squad since God knows when.. that is the injustice..This boy is in shape and if selected and used against Zambia in the later part of the game maybe 75 mins or so will definitely score a goal..Genort Rohr is a tactless coach and is probably on Ahmed Musa’s Payroll

        • You are wrong guy, Musa would always be a good sub any time, coming on from the bench to boost up the speed of the game. There is no way onyekuru would bench Ighalo, Anthony nwakeme or Iwobi as a top man. His time would come, not now bro.

The guy is good but not ripe for super eagles. That he scored doesn’t give him better stead in the team. Who will he bench. Let him grow, age is on his side. For now let him grow better. Nigerians we like noise of goals. The guy wasn’t too fantastic in the UEL game I watched him play.

        • Ugo! Payroll? Why are you jumping in to conclusion, Musa can not pay the man, there is no way you can compare experience of Musa with Henry for now and remember everybody can not be in the national team at the same time. Let’s be patient, Henry time will soon come.
