Little known 19-year old Henry Onyekuru has become the hottest Nigerian striker in the Belgian topflight known as the Jupiler League in the ongoing season, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Onitsha-born attacker scored 12 league goals for AS Eupen in the regular season to help his side finish in the 13th position with 30 points after 30 games.
Onyekuru's performance outshines other top Nigerian stars in Belgium, like Joseph Akpala (one goal for Oostende) and Moses Simon (three goals for KAA Gent), and the forward will be leading his side's attack in the UEFA Europa League Play-Off starting this weekend.
Meanwhile, Akpala and Simon will be leading other Nigerian stars in the Championship play-off also starting this weekend.
The Belgian Jupiler League is made up of 16 teams. For the league winner to emerge, the top six teams from the regular season enter the championship playoff, with the first-placed team winning the championship.
The six clubs in contention for the league title are Anderlecht, Club Brugge, KAA Gent, KV Oostende, Sporting Charleroi and Zulte-Waregem.
Club Brugge were champions last season.
