Oparanozie Charges Falconets To Attack Spain For Victory

By Adeboye Amosu:

Super Falcons forward, Desire Oparanozie, is rooting for the Falconets to put up a fine performance against Spain in today’s quarter-final clash at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and advace to the semi-finals, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The Falconets will face La Rojita at the Stade Guy-Piriou, Concarneau this afternoon, from 3pm, Nigerian time.

Chris Danjuma’s charges needed a late own goal by China right-back Jiaxing Dou to book their place in the knockout stages after holding the Asians to a 1-1 draw in their Group D encounter on Monday.

The West Africans can take encouragement from the fact that they have beaten Spain once before at the U-20 Women’s World Cup – in the group stage of the 2016 edition.

Spain on the other hand top Group C and are looking to make it to the semi-finals of the competition for the first time.

“It’s game day! Common falconets, let’s bring back this moment. Good luck ladies🙏💪🇳🇬 #FIFAU20WWCup #France2018 #QuarterFinalStage #NigVsSpain 📽credit linekovie @ Bretagne, France,” Oparanozie tweeted on official Twitter handle.

  • Has Oparanozie let the cat out of the bag regarding the NFF’s plans for the Super Falcons ahead of the women’s World Cup in June?

I recall fellow CSN forum contributor Adisboy suggesting that the NFF utilize the April friendly to organize more tune-up matches for the Super Falcons in the wake of their decent 7th place performance at the Cyprus invitational tournament.

    Perhaps someone was listening!

France-based Oparanozie, who continues to be prolific under coach Dennerby, was quoted on brilla.net as saying :”I’m satisfied with the world cup preparation because this is the first of its kind for the Falcons.

We also understand that the federation are hoping to get us quality friendlies in the first week of April during the FIFA window.

The plan is to play 2 or 3 friendlies and we hear what we may be waiting for now is a formal approval.” End of quote. (source://brila.net/oparanozie-thumbs-up-nff-for-good-world-cup-preparation/)

With our opponents still playing friendly matches, The NFF will do no wrong in building on their impressive preparation of the Falcons with more matches between now and June.

    Up NFF, up Super Falcons!!!!!

  • Oparanozie was restored to the starting line up of Guingamp today but her presence could prevent an away loss to Montpellier as the match ended 1:0 in favour of the hosts.

Nigeria sharpshooter Oparanozie, who has been largely inactive since February, made a start that would delight Super Falcons fans who expect her to be active in top flight club football leading up to the World Cup in France.

Oparanozie was in the Super Falcons side that lost narrowly to France 1:0 at the 2011 World Cup however her football has developed tremendously since then.

Today’s club match was 0:0 until 72 minutes before Valerie Gauvin scored the decisive goal for Montpellier.

Tried as Oparanozie and her colleagues did, they could not find an answer as the match ended 1:0.

I am praying that Oparanozie continues to get game time in the French league as I expect Dennerby to make her the de facto number 9 at the World Cup if fit.

Bringing all her experience to bear, Oparanozie’s partnership with Ordega, Oshoala and Ajibade may yet prove to be deadly at the mundial.

  • Asked what drives her, Oparanozie said in a recent interview :”The number one thing that drives me is passion among every other thing.

I have inexplicable love for the game.”

The news of Oparanozie being restored to the starting line up of Guingamp this weekend (see post above) was one of delight.

To be honest, I think the 25 year old centre forward has been a little bit off-form lately.

More game time leading to the world cup should help her reignite some of her killer instincts.

    Good luck Oparanozie.
