Super Eagles striker Osaze Odemwingie was named the Budweiser Man of the Match after the Group F game against Bosnia-Herzogiva in Cuiaba.
The Stoke City forward prodded home from close range in the 29th minute from an Emmanuel Emenike assist and thus becomes the second Nigerian star to be named Man of the Match in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi won the Man of the Match accolade when the Eagles were held to a goalless draw by Iran in their first game of the World Cup.
Odemwingie’s feat means that Nigeria are within a point of qualifying for the Round of 16 of the World Cup. The Eagles can reach the Knock out stages of the World Cup with a draw against Argentina.
The sub plot in Odemwingie’s award after the Bosnia game is the fact that his goal ensured that Stephen Keshi becomes the first Nigerian coach to win a FIFA World Cup game for Nigeria-same coach he had a public spat with which cost him a place in Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations team.
