From Mumini Alao in Port Alegre:
Super Eagles striker Osaze Odemwingie says he and teammates are happy with the outcome of their game against Argentina on Wednesday despite the 3-2 defeat.
Odemwingie was responding to questions from the media after the game which confirmed Nigeria’s passage to the Round of 16. Bosnia’s 3-1 win over Iran also helped to pave the way for Nigeria’s passage.
“We’re happy with our performance, but we’re not happy with the scoreline. We wanted to win, Osaze said.
“The scoreline in the other game (Bosnia 3-1 Iran) shows how tough this group has been.
“Playing against Argentina who are so close to their home across the border made the match more difficult. They had a lot of support, but we were not fazed by that.”
Odemwingie who was substituted by Uche Nwofor in the game added: “We are satisfied that we are improving from game to game, and we are now in the second round. We have a chance to go very far in this World Cup,” the Stoke City striker said.
Odemwingie has played in all three Super Eagles matches at the 2014 World Cup.
