Nigeria star Asisat Oshoala was in action but fired blanks as Arsenal Ladies lost 1-0 at home to Manchester City Ladies in the FA Women’s Super League on Sunday.
The only goal of the game was scored by Steph Houghton in the 53rd minute.
Oshoala, who has scored just one goal this season, was replaced by Dominique Jansse early in the second half.
The win increases Manchester City’s points to 38 points and maintains their lead on the log, while Arsenal Ladies stay third with 23 points.
Oshoala had Arsenal’s first chance in the ninth minute after she bullied her way into Manchester City’s box and unleashed a fierce volley which deflected wide.
Jordan Nobbs went close for Arsenal Ladies in the 36th minute but her volley was tipped over the bar.
City eventually broke the deadlock on 51 minutes following a thunderous free-kick which found the top corner.
In the 62nd minute, Oshoala was replaced by Dominique Jansse.
