Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala says United States of America women’s national team are not invincible and that the reigning African champions are determined to excel in next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup slated for Canada.
Falcons were drawn with World super powers in women’s football, USA, Sweden and Australia in group D generally regarded as the ‘group of death’ but the Rivers Angel of Port Harcourt forward believes there was no need for any one to fear the Americans, insisting they have what it takes to stand against them head for head, toe to toe.
“Yes, its a tough group but I don’t think America will stop us from achieving our target at the championship”,Oshoala who emerged as the Most Valuable Player, MVP during the U-20 FIFA Women’s Cup in Canada said.
“We respect them (America) for what they have achieved in women football but that does not mean we will go out there and stroll for them. Yes we’ve not beaten them before but that does not mean they cannot be defeated.
“We’ll give each of the games our best, taking the games as they come but yes, we have the spirit to fight and qualify from the group and from there anything can happen.
“All the teams in the group are tough, Sweden, Australia and of course, we too. We’ve a good team that can stand its ground against any opponent.
Oshoala expressed happiness returning to Canada not much long after she helped the Falconets emerge FIFA U-20 Women’sWorld Cup runners-up last Augus.
