England born Nigerian winger Solomon Otabor turned down a chance to represent England’s national U21 football team,as his priority is to play
for the Super Eagles the player has informed Completesportsnigeria.com.
The 22 year old was called up to Aidy Boothroyd’s squad for the games against Andorra’s U21 and Scotland’s U21 declined which they won 7-0 and 2-0 respectively.
Otabor explained that his love for his fatherland has kept him dreaming of a chance to dorn the green and white jersey.
“Now I’m 22 I feel like I’ve got a lot experience with over 80 league appearances under my belt and if I get into the Super Eagles team I can do well,” Otabor told CSN exclusively.
“I’ve matured physically and I’m more powerful than when I was before. So a chance is all I need to prove myself.”
“I hope for an opportunity to show the manager and his staff what I can do.
The 20-year-old Solomon-Otabor trained with the Nigeria U23s last summer and was in line to make his long awaited debut for the Samson Siasia-led side in November/December 2015 but the Africa U23 Cup of Nations fell outside  Fifa’s international match calendar.
“It was rather unfortunate I could not make the team because the games didn’t fall on the FIFA’s international match calendar,” he continued.
“But I hope I get the chance to prove my worth like Moses, Iwobi and Semi Ajayi are now doing.”
Otabor has scored once in seven appearances for Birmingham City who are currently ninth in the English Championship this season with 23 points
from 15 games.

    Good luck man

Solomon-Otabor wants to play for Nigeria but he has to first establish himself in Birmingham. This season, he has play in only 7 of the 15 league matches and in these 7 matches he only managed 92 minutes cumulatively. He should be made to know that coach Rohr invites player based on track record and what they can do. You only get to prove yourself by playing regularly in your club. I doubt whether Otabor will remember Nigeria if he is playing regularly for his club in London.

Ahhh…Zik of Africa, you are bringing up stats here…?? Some people will crucify you o. I dont know what metrics they use to rate players’ abilities…but they always suffer cranial implosion whenever they see statistics that defeat their fantasies.

    • Otabor was Birmingham’s young player of the year  at the time of first contact in 2015/16 season. Age grade teams Typically have a hard time betting into first squads of their teams, hence European football has a competition for their age grade players.

Same way International matches between Wngland and for example Italy will have an Under 17 or under 20 match corresponding at the same weekend.

The youth league is very organised and Otamor will have plenty of matches playing in that. Same way Samuel Chukwueze has been playing with the Villarreal under 23 squad (9 full games) and joined the senior squad for three Europa league games this season

l am positive this guy, Otabor, an Edoman. wants to play for Nigeria. You see, most Edo people tends to raise their kids to think that they are Nigerians first and foremost. So it is almost natural for this young man to think yes, it is my right too to want to play for Nigeria before anywhere else just like Iwobi or Moses( now retired at 27).
Let no one doubt his intentions. His capacity is a different ball game. For now, the NFF should continue to encourage him and appreciate him. Kudos to his parents for raising a true Nigerian patriot even when he was born in Birmingham, England.

The news says he is 22 but he was invited to Under 21 team. I dont get that. Has England also joined us in age cheating? Lol. Meanwhile kudos to the young patriot. We are proud of you. Keep working hard, by Gods grace you will make it. For now I doubt if you will be considered bcos you dont seem to be regualar enough and you only have one goal in 15 games. But nothing os impossible. Dont give up my dear. God bless Nigeria.

Hey Pascie, thanks for yesterday mate. I don’t think UEFA are strict at enforcing age guidelines for under-aged tournaments so I wasn’t surprised, mate, when I read this piece.
It is not the first time England fielded an overaged player in a UEFA encounter with no consequence.
James Milner was 21 years old in 2017. Yet he represented England under 21s until 2019 with no consequence.
With FIFA, it is a different kettle of fish. They don’t accept the kind of laxities that regional organisations accept.
Do you remember 2002 when CAF allowed Cameroon to wear singlets in Africa Cup of Nations. FIFA disallowed it at the world cup.
      Hope I am making sense.

      • Ashy Slashy 2 years ago

Sorry, I meant James Milner was 21 years old in 2007. Apologies, mate.

        • Ashy Slashy 2 years ago

James Milner: 2004–2009 England U-21. 46 caps, 9 goals. Date of birth, 1986.

Hohahahaha….what goes around comes around……! I have you on a clean plate to slaughter now…but i wont do that. I’ll rather choose my fights wisely so you can live to fight another day. You know what i mean….!!! LOLz

Dr Drey, I stand by what I said yesterday. Because of eminent adult contributors and any children who visit this site, I will endeavour to ignore you henceforth.
You picked a fight with me sometime ago and it is something I will not get over.
If I have made any mistakes and you want to ride on this, please be my guest. But because of eminent adults, ladies and gentlemen, I will hold my peace.
The truth is ordinarily I have your time all day, all night and would have no problems feuding with you until Kingdom come.
          I really, really dislike you.
But, I will respect others on this platform and let you be.
Thank you for responding to my post on Uzoho several months ago. Thank you very much.
At least you have made your mark on someone’s life and I will never ever forget you.
          Thank you sir.

Ooohhh….what a touching story…! So so touching…! How people become humble when tables turn against them. I have no problems with you fueding with me…but in truth you have made a wise choice by not doing so this time….and I know you know that too…! Otherwise I only just needed to replicate your templates from yesterday without fear of copyrights violation. Once again, I’ll rather choose my battles wisely, so that my enemies can live to fight another day…!

          • Ashy Slashy 2 years ago

Oh please, by all means, use my templates against me all day all night.
Continue to choose your battle wisely.
Continue to respond to those whose views you disapprove with insult. Continue to prove to Omo9ja, Chima and counyless others that you are the most intelligent Pundit that ever lived. My story is touching yes it is and it still hurts. So well done! You deserve all the accolades.
Make enemies, fight on and choose the battles wisely. Good for you.
Had I known that you do this for a living, looking back, perhaps I would have ignored you like countless others.
If you and I can take this battle away from this forum to another place where it is just you and me, that will work.
For now, because of the ladies, gentleman and children that I don’t want to offend, I will let you be. So, make fun of me! Use my templates against me! Call me a dog! For the sake of others, I will let you be. Enjoy yourself. And congratulations, you have made a positive impact on someone’s life.

    • According to the English FA and Wikipedia “This team is for English players aged under 21 at the start of the calendar year in which a two-year European Under-21 Football Championship campaign begins, so some players can remain with the squad until the age of 23.”

There are several incidences of 23 year olds playing with England’s under 21s Shaka Hislop being one

I think this is something the NFF and maybe CAF should look into if they are not already

    • Pascal, the UEFA U21 competition is not like the other age grade competitions. It is effectively an Under 23 competition in the real sense of it and its is held every 2 years unlike the other UEFA age grade tournaments that are every year. The qualifiers for the final competition begin 2 years to the competition e.g. the qualifiers for the 2019 UEFA Under 21 would have started around Sept 2017.

For a player to be eligible he will have to be not more than the age of 21 AT THE START OF THE QUALIFIERS. This means for the 2019 competition you should not be born earlier than Jan 1996. Therefore there are likely to be some 23/22 years taking part. So to answer your question – there are no age cheats in the competition. Europe no be Africa.

      • “Europe no be Africa”. I’ll go one more and say Europe is not the world.

Only Europe has an under 21 competition, all other football Confederations have an under 20 competition and the world cup is for under 20s. So a person who plays for the under 21s in England or anywhere else in Europe is not eligible to play in the under 20 world cup.
The Uefa under 21 competition has its own rules which are very different to FIFA rules governing the under 20.

England has squads for every age: under 13, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21 and 23 and their records of births make this very possible to track, combine this with school records and health records for everyone born in the country and its virtually fool proof.
There is also a case of a player failing MRI tests with the Nigerian under 17 squad in 2013 but going on to feature for the USAs under 17 in a regional competition there. 1. Because he had an American birth certificate and 2. Because the American football conversation did not require MRI tests for their own regional competitions
