Ozil Targets Improved Season

–Arsenal star says he can be better at everything

Arsenal’s record transfer signing Mesut Ozil has revealed he needs to step his game up “in all departments”,  reported The Mirror.

Ozil, who signed for the Gunners last summer in a £42 million deal, has openly given an honest assessment of his first campaign at the Emirates and has admitted criticism of his contribution last season was valid as he struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League.

“There is room for improvement in all departments,” the newspaper reported that Ozil said.
“I need to have more shots at goal, and also improve my headers. The World Cup title was a great success, but it has to go on now.

“I am looking forward to my second season in England, because I can also bring in my experience from my first season.

“I feel great in England, even more so in London and especially at Arsenal. When things don’t run that smooth at times, there is criticism. Sometimes it’s fair, and sometimes it’s unfair,” he continued.

“But I can judge my performances very well – and I also know how the coach [Arsene Wenger] and the fans rate it.”

Ozil made 40 appearences for Arsenal in his debut campaign and scored seven goals, but he was criticised by supporters for his lack of effort on the pitch when it mattered.

The German international does, however, seem determined to go that extra mile for Arsneal this season in order to silence his critics, who also made their voice heard when the 25-year-old played for Germany against Cameroon in a friendly prior to this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

However that criticism from his home nation was subsequently quashed following the midfielder’s solid performances for Germany during the tournament in South America.

Ozil featured in all seven of Germany’s matches and scored the second goal against Algeria, in added time, in the round of 16 whilst making one assist.

The former Real Madrid star also played almost the entire 120 minutes of the World Cup final against Argentina in their 1-0 victory, before being substituted in extra-time, of added time, for Per Mertesacker.

Ozil will now look to bring his summer confidence from the World Cup into the new Premier League season, but has yet to feature for Arsenal in their pre-season having been allowed an extended break, following his efforts with Germany this summer.
