Australia captain Tim Paine was proud of his side after their draw with Pakistan but expects an improved display in the second Test. Pakistan appeared on course to claim a victory at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium after taking a 280-run first-innings lead and then declaring on 181-6.
However, Australia managed to salvage a draw largely thanks to the efforts of Travis Head and Usman Khawaja, who batted out 30 overs before the lower order held on.
Paine was happy to get something out of the match but he admits his side need to be better in the second and final Test if they are to win the series.
“I was nervous [in the last 45 minutes]. I think that’s how it happens here. If batsmen get in, it’s easy. Really proud of the way out tail stuck at it,” he said, as reported by Cricket365.
He added: “We were outplayed. Proud to get something out of it, but we can play a lot better in the next Test.”
