Joseph Parker’s trainer claims that he needs a “convincing win” against Alexander Flores to get him back on track for a title fight. The 26-year-old’s heavyweight career has hit the buffers in 2018 after he lost his WBO belt to Anthony Joshua in Cardiff, despite becoming the first man to take the undefeated British fighter to a points decision.
Parker then returned to the UK in late July and suffered another unanimous points defeat at the hands of Dillian Whyte.
He returned to his homeland and is now busy preparing for the December 15 Christchurch showdown against the tricky American Flores, who boasts 15 KOs and just one defeat from his 19 fights to date.
Parker would relish the chance to secure another big-name fight in Britain, with a rematch against Whyte or Joshua top of his priority list.
But his trainer Kevin Barry is adamant that will only happen as long as he does a thorough job on Flores. “This fight against Alexander Flores has career implications for us,” said Barry.
“We’re coming off back-to-back losses, which is something that has been hard for us to accept. It’s very, very important that we get a good win here. “Not just a win, but a convincing win to get Joe back on track, so we can focus on bigger and more meaningful fights in 2019.”Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
