Manuel Pellegrini has ruled Yaya Toure out of Manchester City UEFA Champions League first leg semi-final tie against Real Madrid on Tuesday at the Etihad Stadium.
Toure is suffering from a muscle injury, hence will not feature against Real Madrid.
Confirming this during his press conference ahead of Tuesday’s clash, Pellegrini also said the four-time African Player of the Year could also miss Sunday’s Premier League game against Southampton.
“Yaya is going to be out, I think. He hasn’t recovered from the muscle injury,” Pellegrini said.
“I don’t think he will be fit for Sunday (against Sunderland), we will see how he improves during the week.”
Pellegrini stated that City are not relenting after making the Champions League semi-final for the first time, pointing out that their main aim is to progress into the final.
“It’s important not to be comfortable because we’re at this stage. Everyone wants to continue, to play in the final.”
He reminisced on his time at Villarreal, when he took them to the semi-final in 2006, but stated that it is a different scenario this time.
“I don’t think about the past. I have been with Villarreal before at this stage. Tomorrow is a different thing, another club.”
He also commented on the impact of Eliaquim Mangala for City so far, and the danger posed by Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Mangala is having a very good season. He has done very well in the last five games alongside Otamendi, we keep four clean sheets.
“Ronaldo is a good player but we need to worry about Real Madrid- he’s one very good player. We need to work as a team.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
