Despite committing the foul which led to the penalty that secured a 1-0 win for Benin Republic against Nigeria, Azeez Aremu is confident the home-based Super Eagles will still qualify for the 2018 CHAN in Kenya, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Algerian referee Mustapha Ghorbal awarded an 89th minute penalty to Benin Republic after number-4 shirted Aremu pulled down a Beninoise player who was goal bound.

But the Akwa United defender is upbeat that the home-based Super Eagles will make amends in the return leg in Kano in a week time.

"I believe we will beat them very well in the second leg and qualify for the 2018 CHAN," Aremu told Completesportsnigeria.com here in Cotonou.

Aremu stated he was not feeling downcast and no hard feelings towards him by the coaching crew and his teammates following the foul that attracted the  penalty kick

He said: "I am okay. I didn't feel too bad even the coaches and my teammates are not angry with me."

The home-based Eagles must beat Benin by two clear goals or more in the second leg in Kano to guarantee qualification for next year's 2018 CHAN.
