Scott Piercy produced a flawless round on Friday to open up a one-shot lead at the halfway stage of the CJ Cup. The American, who is chasing his fifth career PGA Tour title and second of the year, made seven birdies in a bogey-free round of 65 to move to the top of the leaderboard on nine-under, one stroke ahead of reigning US Open and US PGA Champion Brooks Koepka.

First-round leader Chez Reavie, whose only victory came at the 2008 RBC Canadian Open, mixed five birdies with three bogeys to sign for a two-under-par 70 and he has sole possession of third place heading into the weekend’s action.

Europe’s 2018 Ryder Cup winning pair Alex Noren and Ian Poulter share fourth spot on five-under, four shots off the pace, after the duo carded rounds of 65 and 69 respectively.

World number 111 Ryan Armour then heads a quintet of US players on four-under, with the 42-year-old sharing sixth position alongside Jamie Lovemark, Pat Perez, Gary Woodland and Brian Harman.

Defending champion Justin Thomas made an eagle at the par-five 18th to sign for a two-under-par 70, moving him into an eight-way share of 22nd on one-under, eight shots back from Piercy.
