Pietersen Worried By Lack Of ‘Superstars’

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has admitted he is worried by a lack of superstars in the sport at present. The 38-year-old was one of the biggest names in the sport but he retired from all forms of the game earlier this year.

Pietersen scored 8,181 runs in 104 Tests for England while also amassing 4,440 runs in 136 one-day matches.
In 37 Twenty20 games he scored 1,176 runs but Pietersen is now concerned after a number of the greats retired in the last two years.

When asked, he told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Sportsweek: “I really struggle to see entertainers, they’re lacking in the game.
“But otherwise pure entertainers and superstars are not in the game and that’s a big worry.”

The likes of Muttiah Muralitharan, Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, Justin Langer, Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne are all working in the media at present and Pietersen admits franchises need to try and bring them back into the game in some capacity.

He added: “You want those superstars attached to franchises, national sides and academies so that youngsters get inspired to be those people.”
